Aimée-Lee Xu Hsien is a Chinese-Irish-Australian Writer and Director who likes to approach comedy like it's drama, and drama like it's comedy. The result is irreverent and playful, and will get you in the feels when you least expect it. Aimée-Lee elevates reality through richly detailed production design, bringing a lavish visual style to all her work.
She has directed commercials for clients including Volkswagen, MLA, Uber Eats, CommBank, PayPal and more. In 2025 she was invited to London to be a judge at the D&AD Awards.
Aimée-Lee has written and directed two online series financed by Screen Australia in conjunction with Screen NSW and Screen Queensland respectively. The first was 'Pleasant Avenue' (2024, 5 x 6 mins), starring an ensemble cast including Heather Mitchell, Ursula Yovich and John Batchelor. 'Pleasant Avenue' saw Aimée-Lee nominated for an Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Directing. Her follow up series, another ensemble comedy titled 'Not Russian Anywhere' (8 x 4 mins), will be released in 2025.
Aimée-Lee's short films have screened at over 25 international film festivals and taken out awards at festivals like the Academy Award-accredited Palm Springs International ShortFest and Provincetown International Film Festival.
